Elena Salmistraro, wunderkind and award-winning artist on the international design scene, will take on the role of “Ambiente Designer 2024” at this year’s edition of Ambiente. Plus, in Galleria 1 she will be providing a world exclusive of her latest creation: “The Lounge”, an installation as amusing and colorful as her artwork.
Under the motto of “A Serious Game”, the artist has created a multifunctional living space somewhere between interior design and hospitality which reflects her amusing, joyful, and colorful approach to design.
Elena Salmistraro: the new icon of Italian design
Elena Salmistraro, the successful artist and product designer, has been recognized as one of the most influential women in Italy by Forbes magazine and as one of the 100 key design personalities by AD Germany, France, and Italy. Her works are creative, vibrant, award-winning, and displayed in renowned museums around the world.
After her studies at the Brera School of Art and her degree in fashion and industrial design, she started teaching at the Politecnico di Milano. In the studio she founded in 2009, she has created diversified projects in architecture, design, graphic design, art, and fashion.
Collaboration with giants like Apple, Disney and Nike speak to her influence at a global level. Her distinct, eclectic, and vibrant style is always recognizable, taking inspiration from cultures, myth, nature, and street art.
The Lounge, a space that subverts the rules of design
The Milanese designer has used her unique vision to curate an extraordinary presentation with selected products from exhibitors. The installation is a humorous work of art which playfully breaks down the rigid perspectives of contemporary design. Salmistraro skillfully combines interior design and hospitality and invites visitors to immerse themselves in her colorful world.
“Design is fluid, it’s constantly changing and follows society and its needs,” Salmistraro says.
The project is inspired by the meeting spaces in hotels and airports, transient spaces where people carry out various activities during their travels. With the theme “A Serious Game”, Salmistraro’s presentation not only pushes the traditional boundaries of design, but raises deep questions about the search for happiness through art and creativity.
“Colors and unusual color combinations are a fundamental element of the project: they give it its character and its own energy, convey emotions and tell a story,” Salmistraro reveals.
The artist’s goal is to bring a smile to the viewer’s face, transforming the exhibition experience into an emotional journey.
