Ambiente Trends24+: previews and foretastes of 2024’s trends

Yet again at Ambiente, held in Frankfurt from January 26-30, the latest global trends in consumer goods will be introduced via a vast selection of products.

This has been made possible thanks to studio bora.herke.palmisano, who were commissioned by Messe Frankfurt to take an in-depth look into the most notable international styles in fashion, art, interior design and lifestyle, and choose the products which best interpret innovation and will determine the new rules of global consumption.

An area dedicated to the trends in 2024

To explore the various trends, Ambiente, as in previous years, has put together a dedicated area in the foyer of hall 4.1. In this space, visitors will be able to stroll by exhibitors who will be presenting a preview of the products which we will soon find on our dining room tables, in our living or work spaces, or as gift ideas in the stores of our cities.

The trends divided into three style worlds

Let’s take a closer look at the color, shape and material trends identified by the studio amongst the vast world of consumer goods. The results of the research led to three macro trends:

  • AURA OF PROGRESS_visionary + elemental
  • QUALITY OF SILENCE_pure + familiar
  • SPIRIT OF CRAFT_bold + poetical

As always, a strong emphasis has been given to the theme of sustainability, which is clear in the conscious use of materials and the creation of circular and eco-sustainable processes.  However, this takes nothing away from the styles

which, based on these new principles, receive exciting creative stimuli.

Meanwhile, another one of the recurring themes amongst the trends is technology seen as an instrument of innovation and improvement of archaic elements which move towards new forms of expressions and functionality.

Trends do not come out of thin air, but have a solid foundation in the past and belong to a process of constant evolution and the natural synthesis of codes and values.

As Annetta Palmisano stated:

“In uncertain times, it’s not about searching for a short-lived theme. Instead, Ambiente Trends pick up on important developments and continue them, each with its own focus. All living themes are united by a conciliatory perspective that preserves the familiar and welcomes the future”

The aura of progress

Ambiente Frankfurt 2024’s first trend is called “AURA OF PROGRESS_visionary + elemental”, and it identifies the energy enveloping those new products which and combine archaic elements and futurism and have been made with hyper-innovative technology.

This trend highlights the digital processes aided by artificial intelligence which do not replace, but rather enhance craft methods and give birth to fascinating, innovative, and, most of all, sustainable products.

The radiant and vibrant color palette of this moodboard appears to merge the digital and physical worlds, ranging from warm tones like violet and intense solar yellow to cool components like aqua and mineral tones. Strong materials like wood, steel, and stone are harmoniously brought together with shapes borrowed from nature and elements of futuristic design.

Quality of silence

The second trend is called “QUALITY OF SILENCE_pure+familiar”, and it takes our increasingly more pressing desire for calm and clarity into consideration. The palette is made up of natural and positive colors and simple materials which provide us with tranquility, seeing how comfort has become a real luxury in our living environments.

The warmer tones of terracotta and wood, the neutral tones of sand, cool grays, and blue are the colors which best represent this trend. Familiar materials are used and take on new meanings thanks to their recyclability. The products which result from it fluidly play with the boundaries between design and art and feature a minimalist look which pays homage to simple rituals.

Spirit of craft

The final trend is “SPIRIT OF CRAFT_bold + poetical”, and it stands out for the diverse influences it brings together: bold shapes and combinations paired with sophisticated colors and craft skills combined with a modern style. The flexibility of the products and ideas meet consumer tastes in a world of increasingly changing and fluid lifestyles.

The color palette combines warm tones like amber, brandy, and chili to neutral gray and sepia, pairing them with cool lapis lazuli, glass green, and turquoise. The heart of the composition lies in objects created from forgotten craft techniques or which reemerge from manufacturers’ archives and are transformed into new designs. Ceramic, with its extreme versatility and creative possibilities, stands out as its key material.
