Carpet production goes way back to ancient times in India and Persia, where they have been woven in wool and silk for centuries. Today Unopiù has chosen a material which is symbolic of sustainable production and the fight against pollution: 100% recycled PET.
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a very simple material used for plastic bottles and other packaging, especially in food products. It is a thermoplastic polymer from which millions of tons of different products throughout get produced and, luckily for us, is easily recyclable.
How are Outdoor’s carpets produced? Used plastic bottles are collected and separated by color to obtain the collection’s three tonalities: blue, dove gray, and gray. After a wash, the bottles are reduced to fragments and are then fused to obtain the long PET “yarn” used for the weaving of carpets.
This ecological process takes nothing away from the beauty of the products and makes them extremely resistant to sunlight and rain. Furthermore, Outdoor carpets are also fireproof.
