Two contrasting sofa trends
Let’s imagine that you are looking for a new sofa for the living room and immediately are faced with a choice between a high sofa with a slender structure, which almost looks as if it is floating in mid-air, or a low sofa, which is compact and practically legless. What do you choose? These diametrically opposed trends are both capable of giving the space a bold look. The comfy low sofa
When it comes to relaxing in front of the TV, reading, cozying up for a chat, or just taking a minute for yourself after work, the sofa is our best friend. And we all know that when it comes to plush cushions it becomes even more enjoyable to plop down on the sofa. And this is what we’d like to focus our top ten on today. We have chosen ten sofas released in 2022 which have ample and rounded forms. Their absence of legs (or rather, the reduced presence of them) gives these models a monolithic look and their closeness to the ground creates a striking sculptural effect, as if they were islands emerging in the living room. And despite their sizes, these plush sofas give off a sense of softness that catches the eye and invites you to kick back and relax.
No base structure, more freedom of expression
The legless sofa is a piece of furniture which has been around for decades and has shown no signs of disappearing. Moreover, free from the rules of traditional sofas and open structures which demand rigorous forms, their designers could expand their horizons and, at times, give life to truly extraordinary creations. For example, there is the famous Bocca sofa from Gufram inspired by visionary artist Salvador Dalì, the artistic pieces produced by Edra, or the sofa designed by Gaetano Pesce in more recent times which recreates a sunset on the Manhattan skyline. It’s not by chance that the low sofa is a key element for giving a pop touch to the living room and extremely useful in fine public spaces, especially if they come in large island compositions.

The ten fresh models we have chosen for our selection have all been released in 2022. There are fixed sofas and modular series, modest and discrete forms, more eccentric models, more classic solutions with backrests and armrests, and ones with deconstructed and mobile elements. Obviously, they all share a compact and ample form in common and all go without elements which lift up the seating.
