Parallel lamp by Oluce: lighting gets a new look

COVER: Oluce, Parallel lamp – design Victor Vasilev

One of the most interesting new releases this year in the lighting sector is without a doubt Oluce’s Parallel series. The minimalist matte-black table lamp and the floor lamp have a cylindrical lampshade, a solid lateral stem made up of two parallel metallic plates, and a circular base.

They are simple, but Oluce has included a brand-new feature: a leather covered lampshade. The leather cover is available in two colors, natural leather and sand, which have both been made with hammered leather. This provides the surfaces with a natural and delicate grain and creates a unique visual and tactile look.

The result is a lamp which is pleasing to all and capable of being placed into classic spaces thanks to its elegant leather cover, as well as providing rigor to modern and minimalist interiors.

Moreover, its designer Victor Vasilev is well-known for his continuous search for formal and material purity. The Bulgarian and cosmopolitan designer lives and works in Milan so he can collaborate with the major Italian design houses like Oluce, for whom he has already designed the Superluna floor lamp.

“For me, geometry is the compass which allows you to navigate the complex sea of forms,” stated Vasilev, who also explained that the name Parallel refers to the original idea of the structure (i.e., the two parallel profile plates making up the stem and hiding the wire). He also remarked that the leather cover was the company’s idea and that he loved it immediately because it added a bit of “domestic warmth” to the project’s rigor. All we can say is that this collaborative work has already become an instant classic.
