The successful combination of technological experimentation and industrial craftsmanship was key to creating the perfect collection of modern armchairs for any living environment. Lady Collection by Alias is a collection which has evolved over time thanks to Paolo Rizzato’s brilliance in designing an object which can be constantly altered with new formal and functional formats.
Three modern armchairs since 1991
The Lady collection is in constant evolution. It made its debut in 1991 with Young Lady, an armchair in Viennese straw and metal. Later, New Lady was introduced with a more enveloping frame which was completely covered in leather and expertly finished.
Finally, in 2019, this process led to the creation of New Lady Soft with its padded and upholstered frame. The collection’s chairs are supported by three different bases: a three-legged base in aluminum, a wooden base, and a steel calyx base.
The story begins with Young Lady
The iconic and sculptural Young Lady is the result of Paolo Rizzatto’s penchant for designing timeless projects which are capable of maintaining their appeal throughout the years. The armchair makes use of traditional Viennese straw, which is widely used in the historic Thonet chairs, and brings it up to date. Framed within a lathed ash wood structure, the seat rests on three sculptural legs made in aluminum.
New Lady: the next step
The next step in the Young armchair was New Lady, an elegant interpretation of the living room chair which features restrained dimensions and refined construction details. The seat stands out for its fine stitching which follows the structure’s profile, its large and enveloping leather backrest, and for the versatility of its fixed or rotating bases.
New Lady Soft: the final version
The latest arrival in chronological order, New Lady Soft, has further enhanced the Young project with an even more comfortable and refined version. Released in 2019, New Lady Soft added an extremely comfortable seat which can be covered in both leather and fabric. As with the other versions, it is possible to choose from three different base structures: a three-spoke base in aluminum, a four-spoke base in wood—both of which are fixed—and a rotating steel stem.
