In Piedmont, modern design in the home of two musicians

Floor-to-ceiling glazing and breathtaking views over the Alps. The young couple who owns this attic apartment, just has to open their front door to find themselves opposite this wonderful mountain setting. We’re in Pinerolo, one of the competition venues used during the 2006 Winter Olympics, approximately 40 km from Turin, northwest Italy, on the road to the famous Sestriere ski resort. Anna and Marco, two musicians who travel around the world for work, have gone back to their home town to build their dream home.

The view from the front door. A glass facade on the side of the balcony. Sleek furniture, key players are the extremely elegant Moov modular sofas designed by Piero Lissoni for Cassina.
Diffused lighting runs along the entire ceiling perimeter, white walls and oak parquet flooring. For the most part, the living room is decorated with closed storage for a dramatic touch. Entertainment unit on one side, Selecta bookcase/ storage on the other, by Lema.
The bookcase/ storage by Lema is not just for drama; this is an extremely practical and capacious piece.

Converted from the top floor of an old office building; this space was perfect for enjoying the breathtaking mountain views, and it could also be altered internally, turning it into a real open-plan apartment. There’s a light-filled dining room/ kitchen with a table for 12, perfect for having friends over and eating together, and the living room is big enough for Marco’s essential baby grand piano.

The owner’s baby grand piano contrasts beautifully with the red wall.

The furniture is simple and practical. On the whole, the interior is elegant and functional, pops of bold colour break up a white and timber palette. Interior design store Galliano Habitat helped Anna and Marco to pick the right furniture; this showroom also houses a museum which has the most important pieces in international design history.

The open-plan kitchen blends in seamlessly with the background. Breakfast bar with top in thermo-treated oak wood; this separates it visually from the dining room. Glam kitchen by Minimal, glossy white lacquer fronts with countertop and sink in Corian. Induction hob by Bora.
The beautiful Siamese cat was hiding under the table during our photo-shoot. Right-hand side, Canna Nuda Metallo pendant lamps by Nemo above the breakfast bar which separates kitchen from dining room.

The colour red brings the whole scheme together, accents are used around the home like a feature wall or the lamps. It’s also used for the guest bathroom and the master bedroom. Red perfectly expresses the strong and passionate personality of our home owners.

The master bedroom has a neutral colour scheme with red lamps and bedspread for a pop of colour.

With voids and solids, elegant detailing and finishes, natural materials and a neutral palette with pops of fire-truck red; this home is representative of its inhabitants. Going from Adagio to Allegro con brio, Anna and Marco enjoy their time off in this wonderful setting in the Piedmontese Alps.
