Tobi-Ishi by B&B Italia, the marble Special Edition

“The Tobi-Ishi table is a monument”. This is how it all began for Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, the two London-based designers who created the first Tobi-Ishi model in cement grout for B&B Italia 10 years ago. Indeed, this table instantly became an iconic piece for B&B Italia. Today it is celebrating its 10th anniversary and is back to amaze us even more with its sculptural form. This striped Special Edition has been presented on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile 2022. Made entirely in marble, it uses a technique which enhances its design. While its bold style and personality already stood out in the previous iteration of the Tobi-Isho table, in this new version the three elements inspired by Japanese garden “skipping stones” acquire greater balance and sophistication which creates unprecedented lightness.

The materials and craftsmanship were inspired by Italian traditions and the Duomo in Siena: the stripes of Carrara white and Alpi green marble recall the Romanesque Gothic style of the cathedral and are “assembled” with an advanced artisanal technique which requires long hours and care. It all makes Tobi-Ishi’s style even more exquisite and exclusive, while the Tobi-Ishi family expands into new sizes and finishes. In addition to the Special Edition, B&B Italia is introducing a surprising 310×114 cm rectangular model which was a genuine technical challenge for a majestic 10-person table. Meanwhile, the round version comes in natural elm wood in a honey shade. Lastly, an indoor model in a new matte “Venatino Statuarietto” Carrara white marble and glossy Marquinia black marble version has been added to the Tobi-Ishi low table range. For a classy contemporary mood, B&B Italia’s new collection includes pieces with sophisticated appeal which expertly interpret timeless Italian know-how.
