Fuorisalone 2021: what not to miss

In such an unusual situation like the one which has characterized 2021 and the special edition of the Salone del Mobile, we cannot help but expect a different Design Week 2021. There certainly won’t be any lack of events or important meetings. The program (available to all in the FuoriSalone guides distributed throughout the city) is sure to be rich, but has a few less events. Despite the buzz in Milan these days, there might be slightly less of an international vibe than we are always used to. The blame can be attributed to the pandemic, the reduced time for planning, the restrictions for activities, and the uncertainty which has caused this event to completely change its arrangement.

So, what should you expect? We have already made a map of the design districts and written down a series of events which can’t be missed. In addition to the Center, via Durini, the 5Vie, Tortona, Brera, Superstudio, and the Triennale, FuoriSalone’s centripetal force has once again involved new areas and spaces. Among the locations which can’t be missed there is Alcova a Inganni, an antique and slightly run-down space where emerging designers will be put on display, Monumentale with LOM Locanda Officine Monumentale, and Alpha District at the Portello. Less playful and rowdy dates where design is the absolute protagonist, there is no lack of events and exhibitions which put high-craftsmanship, site specific installations, and expositions on display in a mix of pure creativity and innovation, experimentation, and culture.

Among the many possibilities, you can play with design together with the whole family in Playful, Young, Design in the spaces of Stecca 3, get lost in a “secret garden” in the Insula by Visionnaire, relax on Una Spiaggia nel Barocco inside Palazzo Litta, follow the itinerant performance of Sara Ricciardi, and dream in the highly anticipated first solo exhibition of the Cypriot designer Michael Anastassiades in Italy at the Fondazione ICA.

And if you really can’t make it to Design Week, don’t worry: from Super Salone to FuoriSalone, everything has been organized with an online structure to provide us with the best in design in real time and bring the latest trends, in a virtual form, directly into our homes.

When: September 5-10, 2021
