Camerino, Caccaro’s freestanding walk-in closet, turns 10

For exactly ten years, Camerino has been the shining star in Caccaro’s wide range of proposals. As big as a room and, more importantly, freestanding, it easily fits into any space—from smaller locales to the center of an open space.

Its patented U-shaped structure was combined with the revolutionary Total opening system, giving life to a freestanding walk-in closet. It is a closet which does not require wall work or special fittings to support itself and offers tailor-made solutions and complete compositional freedom.

Over the years, Camerino has evolved and become an even more versatile system, keeping up with contemporary lifestyles and needs.

Let’s take a look back at its history, which goes back to 2013.

2013. Camerino’s story begins

In 2013, thanks to a partnership between Caccaro’s R&D department and the designer Sandi Renko, the Camerino Dressing Box was introduced: an innovative release which was designed to combine the functionality and look of a wardrobe and walk-in closet into a single piece of furniture. The idea was to redesign the linear Cabina module into a U-shaped structure, which was narrower yet deeper, to overcome traditional limits—avoiding the encumbrance of a hinged door, the constraints of a sliding door, or wall work.

A new approach to furniture

With this innovation, Caccaro introduced a new approach to furniture which was concentrated on technology, innovation, and the multifunctionality of spaces. Camerino embodied the company’s new concept for the future; freestanding from its beginnings, it was perfectly suited to be placed anywhere—in a recess or the center of a room.

Since its conception, Camerino was completely freestanding and refinished on every side, making it ideal for being positioned in the center of the room.

Camerino features a patented U-shaped structure, the Total opening system, and greater depth, making it incredibly capacious.

Camerino is the Caccaro module with the greatest depth—an accessible space where everything is within reach.

2018. Camerino evolves and gets integrated with the Freedhome System

Years later, Camerino went through a new development phase, embracing the principles of modularity and compatibility that the company started to introduce. Within this context, it was to be integrated with the recently created Freedhome System. Camerino’s qualities were to remain unchanged, but it was enhanced with regards to storage capacity, refined details, sizes, water-resistant finishes, and built-in and automatized lighting.

A technological treasure chest

Its patented U shape remained the heart of its design and allowed for full access, while the shelves occupied each side, guaranteeing aesthetic continuity. The pillars made the interior visually open without encumbrances. The Total opening doors fluidly folded back in on themselves, and the lighting, activated by an infrared sensor, only turned on when needed. With a more spectacular interior design and superior technology, it was able to be discreet while it was “at rest”.

Designed for the bedroom, it becomes even more spectacular and sophisticated thanks to the fumé glass of the doors, which elegantly reveals what’s inside.

The dresser, matched with the walnut shelves and back wall, provides Camerino—in this bedroom setup—with an even more elegant and harmonious look.

2023. Spatial fluidity turns Camerino into a two-sided module

Camerino’s most recent transformation was its two-sided system, which allowed it to make its way into every domestic space. New accessories were added to its interiors, as it made its entrance into the living area and the home office and became more flexible, multifunctional, and completely customizable. Through the combination of its freestanding structure with the new Architype System on its back, Camerino became an even more sophisticated architectural piece which was capable of organizing the space without the need of fixed walls.

Boiserie and Wallover: integrated systems

The innovative combination of the Boiserie allowed the back of Camerino to host the suspended Wallover System units, accessories, and elements from the bed collection. This new combination gave life to new and original setups for Camerino, which could host a small study with a desk, shelves for displaying objects, a sideboard, or even act as a headboard for the Let’spaceGrooveBishape collections.

The two-sided Camerino revolutionized the bedroom, while the Boiserie turned the rear into a compact workstation with two illuminated inserts.

The system turns into a functional bookcase, setting off a home office, and is ideal for organizing stationary, documents, and everyday objects.

Camerino is the ideal ally in the living area, with shelves and dividers which contribute to organizing the interior space as best as possible.

In the center of the room, nestled against the wall or inserted between two Freedhome modules, Camerino provides the perfect balance between spaciousness, functionality, and aesthetic impact

Centrally positioned as a scenic backdrop, Camerino organizes the room without separating it, setting off the bedroom area and, simultaneously, offering the spaciousness of a walk-in closet.
