COVER: Showroom Spazio Materiæ, Napoli
Spazio Materiae in Naples, south Italy, is the newest address for top-quality interior design; this showroom has pieces by independent designers and artists from around the world. The idea behind this space came to owners Stefano Santoro and Teresa Carnuccio, two architects who wanted to bring something different to Naples and Italy as a whole. Stefano and Teresa have successfully accomplished what they set out to achieve: a wide selection of truly original pieces, which can complement any home.
Spazio Materiae brings together design excellence, art and one-of-a-kind pieces, its products add a personal touch to any space and meet the needs of even the most exacting of customers. Spazio Materiae has even something if you are just looking for one special piece or a unique home accessory. In fact, this showroom gathers under the same roof a large variety of different handcrafted artefacts, manufactured using innovative technology and all unequivocally contemporary in taste. What’s more, everything on sale is by new emerging talents or small artisan studios.
An example? Three overlapping concentric mirrors, each one in a different size; this is a unique piece with exciting light reflecting qualities. And this is by Isabell Gatzen, a young designer from Zurich, who has made a name for herself with her timeless works of art, made using natural materials. There are also pieces in ceramics, like the ones by artist Romy Northover. Romy Northover specializes in kinstugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery: old vases are brought back to life after they have been lacquer-dusted in powdered gold. This is a true masterpiece.
Spazio Materiae has everything you could possibly need: lamps, bottle openers, trays, original home accessories from the Orient, cladding, flooring, decorative materials, as well as pieces by top interior design brands. Since its beginnings, Spazio Materiae has become a home for the best the international design scene has to offer; this is a space where excellence and originality are part and parcel of the overall experience. It’s definitely worth a visit and be sure to have enough time to browse around.
