For a journey through design and a bit of time travel, The Museo Bagatti Valsecchi in via Gesù in Milan has turned into the surprising Palazzo delle Meraviglie for the third time. Once again taking place at this edition of the Fuorisalone 2022, creativity, innovation, and pure magic are the keys to understanding this multicultural cabinet of curiosities which has been interpreted through the eyes and vision of six international companies selected by the interior designer Katrin Herden.
This one-of-a-kind event is taking place within the incredible Renaissance setting of the Museo Bagatti Valsecchi (which was inspired by 16th century dwellings in Lombardy). Surrounded by majestic antique furniture, new spaces and forms of expression come to life in this collective dialogue between innovation, the visual arts, research, quality and cohesiveness. The Museo Bagatti Valsecchi is a museum house permeated by history and a mausoleum which collects and recounts the lives of two brothers, the barons Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi. However, on the occasion of the Milano Design Week, it becomes an inspirational hub which puts contemporary design and visionary experiments on display. The unexpected combinations, the contrasting pairings and the home design mixing the past, present and future provide a sense of magic and wonder.
The enchantment begins in the Palazzo’s courtyard, but once you enter and go up the steps you will find yourself suspended between the ancient world and the future, as six global brands explore the last frontiers of creativity and invite us on an emotional and enchanting journey.
The show is astonishing to say the least. There are the conceptual works and sculptures in resin by the Romanian artist Eduard Locata which literally come to life thanks to augmented reality; the limited-edition low tables from the Belgian designer Nancy Torreele which combine high fashion, interior design, nature, and art which combine of beauty and pure innovation; the Medieval-inspired handmade proposals from the designer J.M. Szymanski; and the decorative and haute couture cushions of Sohil, the Milanese atelier founded by Katrin Herden which recovers and uses fine fabrics. Plus, there are outdoor proposals from the American group Perennials and Sutherland in solution-dyed acrylic, and the creative vision of Micale Carvalho of Hommés design studio which mixes fashion, pop culture, art in the meta-version of a futuristic, provocative and kaleidoscopic home.
The design inside Palazzo delle Meraviglie goes beyond confines, limits and prejudice by challenging the laws of physics and convention to astonishing effect.
