Four innovative projects from Alias: new forms of design

Alias, the Italian company known for its iconic furniture, is celebrating its 45th anniversary with a series of projects presented at the Salone del Mobile 2024.

Founded in 1979, Alias sets itself apart with its philosophy of “Something Else”, an approach which blends functionality and creative experimentation to bring multifaceted and avant-garde products to life.

This spirit is fully embodied in the design of the Alias stand at the latest Salone del Mobile made by architects and designers David Lopez Quincoces and Francesco Meda.

New collaborations and collections

Alias has always collaborated with the masters of Italian and international design who contribute to the creation of unique and innovative imagery. Among the latest proposals presented this year, the collection of Nastro adjustable tables and the Lira chair stood out, products which have reinforced the collaboration between Alias and the Norwegian designer Daniel Rybakken.

Meanwhile, Alfredo Häberli presented the Time seating collection which features a clear balance between style and ergonomics. The transformation of a simple two-dimensional sheet into an original three-dimensional seat is an evolution in our conception of the modern chair.

The French designer Patrick Norguet has meanwhile designed the Savoy coffee tables, which feature a marked contrast between the linear architecture of the legs and the softness of the top. The fusion between metal and wood gives the collection a unique look which is ideal for lounge and public spaces.

Lira chair

Lira’s uniqueness derives from its protruding seat which allows it to be easily placed against the tabletop to keep things tidy or make cleaning the floor easier. Lira combines a bold and minimalist look with a structure which unites wood and steel.

The no-frills solidity of the seat is paired with unexpected comfort thanks to the curvature of the backrest. Available in a natural or lacquered finish, Lira fits perfectly into a dining room, offices, and public spaces.

Nastro table

Nastro represents a step forward in the evolution of height-adjustable tables, combining innovation and functionality to offer an incredible user experience.

The heart of the project lies in the lifting system which is made up of a toothed belt and four pulleys connected to the telescopic legs. This original and intuitive mechanism allows one to easily and intuitively adjust the height of the top without the need of electricity.

Time seating collection

The Time collection—with its chairs, armchairs, and stools—was created from the idea of transforming a two-dimensional sheet into a three-dimensional sheet. For each seat, the ABS shells have various heights and the perfect die-cutting allows for everything to fit perfectly together.

The seats appear light and elegant at the same time: the matte monochromatic shells highlight its minimalist design. Elegant versions with ABS veneered with oak or walnut complete the collection.

Savoy coffee table collection

Lastly, the Savoy collection offers sculptural coffee tables which are ideal for furnishing various lounge spaces. The contrast between the linear architecture of the legs and the softness of the tabletop is what sets this project apart.

Moreover, the fusion between sturdy metal and natural wood gives each table a unique look. Available in three versions with different shapes and sizes, the Savoy coffee tables can be matched with one another. The elegant and dynamic legs are made in veneered or lacquered wood and include lacquered steel details which provide stability.
